If you’re anything like me, I bet you love to collect beautiful textures and little treasures from nature like bits of fabric, ribbon, lace, feathers, buttons, twigs… and you wonder how to turn them into something creative that will highlight their simple beauty.
But then you stay stuck and do nothing with them because:
Even though they inspire you and you`d love to display them, you have no idea how to turn them into something more.
They’re too dimensional to incorporate into a regular painting or collage.
You get too precious about them and worry that you will break or ruin them.
But what if there was an easy way to turn these delicious materials into dreamy pieces of art that you can reach out and touch?
That’s where mixed media weaving comes in! This type of art doesn’t require any fancy supplies and is so much more intuitive than things like knitting or crochet.
Hi, I’m Laly Mille
Weaving is one of my earliest memories of making art… I started when I was four years old. Later, when I was about eight, we had a school project with a local museum where all the kids collaborated on this big woven piece which was displayed in the classroom for many years.
More than the result of this project, what I remember the most was the feeling of excitement, coming back to it every day at recess, watching the layers evolve, and using a whole variety of materials we’d all brought from home, some of them rather unusual!
Many years later, as a mixed media artist I rediscovered the joy of weaving and found that it’s the perfect way to turn my beloved collections of materials into something beautiful, while reconnecting to this childlike joy. That’s why I’m so excited to share it with you!
In this delightful & whimsical workshop, we’re going to work with beautiful, unusual and recycled materials (yarns, ribbons, leaves, book pages, old clothes, twigs, feathers and even metal!). We're going to weave exquisite mini artworks that can be framed or displayed as wall-hangings. They can also become the yummiest journal covers!
what Students have said:
“The Woven Dreams class is exceptional. Laly shows ways to use low-cost materials to build a loom and with skill and excellent videos, she explains the process, step by step. You never get lost in her explanations. Highly recommended.”
— LYNNE F.
“I am in the “hunter/gatherer” stage of my much anticipated weaving - making sure my bundle is filled with things that are meaningful. It feels like I’ve been waiting for this workshop for a long time. You stand accused of bringing entirely too much beauty and joy to the world.”
— JUDY M.
“Now that I’ve discovered weaving, how do I find time for other less important things, such as eating, sleeping or going to work? I'm totally delighted to have the perfect reason to use precious bits from my comprehensive stash of treasures. Thanks so much for this beautiful class!”
— FRANCIE R.

What you’ll explore in this delicious creative adventure
With more than 2 hours of video lessons, you’ll be right here with me in the studio as I create two dreamy weavings and explain every little detail of what I do and why!
Part 1
Making your loom
Weaving is such a timeless, universal art and you don't need any fancy equipment or special skills. Virtually any kind of frame-like structure can be used as a weaving loom. Don't hesitate to be creative and use what you've got to build your own.
I’LL GUIDE YOU TO:
Create a simple, portable loom in minutes using a stretched canvas frame (super easy!) or even a simple piece of cardboard.
“Warp” your loom and weave your first weaves (this can actually be quite meditative)
Find inspiration in images and natural materials through sight and touch.
Part 2
Two Dreamy Weavings
Watch as I explore a whole variety of soft and hard materials and make intuitive choices (thin yarns, chunky sari silk ribbons, lace, crochet doily, the hem of an old t-shirt, tree bark, twigs, feathers, book pages, sheet music and more!)
I encourage you to go through your yummy stashes and gather everything that inspires you in that moment.
I’LL GUIDE YOU TO:
Create two different weavings: one light and airy and one more rugged and moody
Build up the layers with a variety of simple and basic weaving techniques
Find inspiration for textures and color schemes from photographs and natural elements
Intuitively feel whether your weaving looks nice and has good volume
Become daring and creative with more techniques and materials to add dimension and interest.
Part 3
Finishing Touches
It's time to take our pieces off the loom!
I’ll share several ideas of how to mount and display your woven artworks, add more embellishments and even use them as covers for journals and artists books!
I’LL GUIDE YOU TO:
Bring your piece to completion with lots of ideas for finishing touches
Lovingly take your artwork off the loom and tie it all nicely together
Choose how you wish to mount your woven pieces: wall hanging? journal cover? mounted on a canvas or a plaster substrate? The sky's the limit!
In total, Woven Dreams has over 2 hours of high-quality videos and we complete two projects. I show and explain everything in detail, and I encourage you to make the process yours and work with what you’ve got. If you've ever taken a class with me, you know I like to keep it clear and super inspiring!
The class is in English with English closed captions available.
What students have said:
“I loved so many things about this class... the palettes and textures, the sense of serenity, and the fact that I now have a way to use my ever-growing collection of shells, seed pods, stones, pine needles and whatever else catches my eye when walking.”
— FRANCIE R.
“This class was highly inspirational for me. I live in a densely wooded area so there will be lots of material to gather. I can see myself creating pieces based on location, like "Woodland Lake"... This process is very approachable and your method of teaching is so relaxing and reassuring.”
— PAULA S.
“It was wonderful! I love the dimensionality of these pieces and I feel like there are so many possibilities to explore. My first weaving was so much fun to create! You do a great job of explaining each step of the process, and I love that you are always giving alternatives. It is easy to follow your instructions and your videos are very well done. You are a fabulous teacher!”
— LYNNE G.
Happy students & their yummy woven art!
Recommended Supplies
For this class, you won't need any fancy art supplies or tools: It all starts with looking around your home and in nature, collecting textures and colors and any materials you want to experiment with! Don't be shy to ask friends and neighbors too…
Below are the materials I use in the class and they’re only suggestions. I encourage you to work with whatever you already own and love. Inside the class, you'll find a more detailed list with links.
To create your weaving loom:
A wooden frame from a stretched canvas (remove the canvas) or any similar kind of wooden frame
Small nails
Hammer (I use a small craft hammer that's really handy)
Ruler
Pencil
Scissors
To create your weavings:
A fork
A crochet hook, tapestry needle or a simple wood skewer
A strip of cardboard or cardstock
Cotton yarn
A variety of fibers in any color combination you like (just make sure to include a good selection of neutral tones)
A few papers: book pages, tea bag paper, and tissue paper are all great options
A few extra items you might enjoy:
Natural materials: bark, feathers, dried leaves, seeds, grasses, twigs...
Reclaimed materials like plastic bag, bubble wrap, steel wool...
Embellishments like small stones, rusted metal, sea glass, buttons...
Optional: photos and/or magazine images for inspiration and color palettes
There's really no limit to what you can weave: look around you and trust your imagination!
Your Guide
for this creative journey
Hi, I’m Laly and I'm so glad you’re here! I’m a mixed media artist from France, and I’m here to help you grow your artist wings! This class is a perfect way to try something new, tap into a different creative energy, and find a new, relaxing artistic process you’re going to love!
Texture is one of the most important aspects of art... and one of the most enjoyable! I love "touchable" art. Art that involves more senses than just sight, dimensional pieces that are so intriguing and dreamy and yummy you can't help but want to touch them... And fiber art takes this to a whole other level! When I look at my woven pieces, I see small, one-of-a-kind artworks with a tactile quality that I couldn't create any other way. I’m so excited to get you started!

Your Questions Answered
If you don’t find an answer below, don’t hesitate to reach out by email at admin@lalymille.com. My husband William & I will do our best to help!
I've never tried weaving before and I’m intimidated by techniques like crochet or knitting where you need to be very careful and precise. I’m more of a messy creative! Can I really do this class?
Absolutely! I’m just like you and there’s truly nothing to feel intimidated about. Weaving is something even children can do! It doesn’t require planning or any prior experience. In fact, it’s perfect for beginners!
I don’t have a loom or a lot of fabrics and materials. Will I need to spend a lot of money on supplies?
No! I’ll show you the super quick and easy way to make your loom (your frame) in minutes and then walk you through little tips and tricks to ensure your weaving is secure… and inspire you with all the weird and wonderful possibilities we have with the materials found all around us! I’ll also show you a simple option of a “DIY frame” using only cardboard!
I’m an experienced artist. Will there be anything I can learn from this class?
Absolutely! Woven Dreams is the perfect next step for you if you already love mixed media and are looking to renew your inspiration, shake things up and try something new!
It’s like mixed media collage on a whole new level and will help you look at the dimensionality of your art in a brand new way.
Plus, aside from the art itself, weaving is incredibly relaxing and meditative. This is all about taking time for YOU, to relax, rediscover and reconnect to the light of your creative soul.

To know if a class will be the right fit for you, trust your intuition. If it feels exciting and stirs your curiosity, if it resonates in a way that feels really good, that feels like joy, like home, or like a big good sigh and a smile... then it most certainly is for you. Let your inner artist guide you!

If, on the other hand, you’re looking only for technical instructions, or for an academic class where you submit work and get detailed feedback and critique, then this is not the right place.
If you’re not comfortable with words like soul, intuition, intention, mindfulness, affirmation, magic, or if seeing me draw an oracle card for inspiration makes you cringe… then my classes are probably not for you.
When in doubt, I encourage you to start with one of my free lessons to see if my teaching style resonates with you. Please note that refunds will not be made after registration for a paid class.

My classes are e-courses, hosted online, and members get an individual, private account to access all their classes on my teaching platform.
All classes are self-study and self-paced. They’re not academic classes. There are no assignments to submit, no grades, no schedule, no certificates of completion, no live conferences. There’s no schedule to comply with, no “catching up” or “falling behind”, ever. They’re simply a space of freedom and creativity for you to explore and enjoy.
Most classes have lifetime access (as per our terms of service, "lifetime" means for the lifetime of the program). The videos are pre-recorded, so you can watch them at your own pace, whenever you want, and as many times as you wish. It’s up to you to find the rhythm that suits you best. Make time regularly to complete your course. It’s a gift you’re giving yourself!

For most of my classes, you get lifetime access to the classroom and videos. "Lifetime" technically means for the lifetime of the program. If we were to retire a course (which so far has never happened), we’d give you several months' notice so you have plenty of time to complete the lessons. You can watch the videos within the classroom as often and as many times as you wish.
To protect the integrity of our content (and all the work that went into creating it) the videos are not downloadable. Therefore, before signing up, please make sure that your internet connection allows you to smoothly stream high-resolution videos online. Refunds will not be made after registration.
